CRIMINOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF ESCAPES FROM PRISON, ARREST OR CUSTODY

Background. Topicality of the research is associated with an increased public danger of such a crime as an escape from prison, arrest or custody, which not only hinders achievement of goals and objectives of justice, but also disrupts activities of agencies that provide isolation from society. Escape from prison, arrest or custody – a very common and socially dangerous crime – is undoubtedly accompanied by multiple negative consequences of financial, organizational and social nature. The purpose of the research is to study statistical evidence on prevalence of escapes from prisons, arrest or custody in the Russian Federation for the period from 2012 to 2014.
Materials and methods. Implementation of the research objectives was achieved through analyzing the existing criminal law, provisions of other legal acts, as well as analyzing some court decisions. The methodological potential included comparative legal and formal-logical analyses, allowing to compare the content and value of the individual judgments of courts.
Results. The study clarified the causes and circumstances of escapes from prison, from arrest or detention, gave criminological characteristics of individual indicators of crime and prison escape indicators in particular.
Conclusions. The study of criminological characteristics of escapes from prison, arrest or detention allows to trace back the trend of one of the most dangerous crimes in the penal crime structure.
